February 2008 Goalkeeping Programs

Youth / Senior Keepers Programs

As so many Premier League First and Reserve Grade goalkeepers, both male and female are aged under 19, Youth & Senior keepers are combined.

The NCF Summer goalkeeping program is in full swing with a 12-15 yrs program and a 15-18yrs program.
The 15-18yrs group includes 2 premier league 1st grade grand final winning keepers, 2 reserve grade keepers, both grand finalists/one champion, 2 keepers with state selection, one keeper with national selection and experience training with an A-League Club.

NCF Goalkeeping Coach Dave Curley has identified not only some great new goalkeeping talent in the area but also a key ingredient to improvement that's expedient. (hey that rhymes)

"Having most of the top youth keepers in the Coffs Coast area training together over the summer allows all of them to see how hard they have to work to keep up with each other. This healthy competition in an environment of camaraderie is bringing the best out of all of them and raising the standard of goalkeeping locally."

As the summer program is taking place in Urunga, two preseason programs (one for males, one for females) are being offered to all keepers and will take place at York St Coffs Harbour. While keepers that participated in the summer program will be given priority, spots are available.

MORE SPECIALIST GOALKEEPER TUITION - JAN 08

After a most successful Spring Term of North Coast Football's Inaugural off season specialist goalkeeper program, NCF Goalkeeping Coach Dave Curley is dusting off the Santa beard and gearing up for Summer Term.

Off-season is the perfect time for keepers to free themselves of match pressure and selection pressure.

This is the time when keepers can really focus on the technical aspects of goalkeeping in order to improve their game.

The importance of specialist keeper tuition:
It's not good enough just to tell a keeper that they have to learn to dive better. They need to have all stages of the dive broken down so the keeper learns to start in the correct position, has their weight distributed correctly, takes off correctly, attacks the ball, lands and follows through safely. It is only now that they will know how to dive effectively and safely.

How many squad coaches have the time or specialist knowledge to do this?
It is unfair to expect them to. Not only do they have the needs of the many more outfield players to meet, goalkeeping is a unique and specialist position requiring specialist tuition. Only a goalkeeping coach who has played in goal themselves can be expected to do this (and the many other technical aspects of a goalkeepers work) properly.

The NCF Summer Term - Off season Goalkeeper Program will cover these topics...
:: Goalkeepers Exploding into action. Fitness, footwork and speed.
:: Communication, Domination & Distribution
:: Powerdiving & Extreme shotstopping
:: Breakaways and through balls
:: Dealing with crosses & set plays

And incorporating the exciting new mini game sweeping the world,
'Keeper Wars'

The main focus of specialist Goalkeeper coaching for junior players is to teach safety techniques.

While all the abovementioned topics will be covered in all programs, the level and intensity of the sessions will vary from the younger group to the older group.
